Wisconsin Census Notes:
Territorial census records for Wisconsin were enumerated in 1836, 1838, 1842, 1846, and 1847. Some of these census records are missing portions and counties.
Wisconsin state census records were taken every 10 years beginning in 1855 and running through 1905. This is a great substitute for the lost 1890 Federal census. Some of these census records are missing portions and counties. See which State and Territorial census records did survive.
1840-1930 Federal Wisconsin census records are available to the public. Search Wisconsin Census Records at Ancestry.
1890 Federal Wisconsin Census Schedules were completely destroyed by fire with the exception of the Special Veterans and Widows schedules. The 1890 Veterans and Widows schedules are a special enumeration of Union soldiers and widows only.
