Vermont
(Republic 1777.Statehood 1791.)
Early settlers faced great
adversity upon reaching Vermont. The French and Indians held great
hostility towards the settlers moving in. The first permanent
settlement in Vermont was Fort Dummer established in 1724.
Early town records exist for Vermont and are on file at the Division of Public
Records in Montpelier, VT. They have microfilm of early town
records, births, deaths, marriages and probates which can be viewed there.
