Vital records older than listed above are now kept at the Utah Division of Archives and Records. Utah Birth Records: Utah didn't require registration of births until 1898 when County Clerks became responsible for the recording of them, however Salt Lake City and Ogden started registering births in 1890 and Park City began registering births in 1892. In 1905, the Utah Department of Health became responsible for registering births in Utah. Utah Death Records: Utah didn't require records of death until 1898, however, there are earlier records of death on file for Salt Lake City (at the City Recorder 1848-1933), Logan City (at Bear River Health Department as early as 1863), Beaver County (at the County Clerk 1881-1949 and Ogden City (at the City Recorder 1890-1905. Death Records 1898-1904 were recorded by the County Clerk of each county. In late 1904, the Utah Health Department became responsible for recording death certificates in Utah.
