New York Census Notes:

Federal New York Census Records were taken every 10 years and include 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 .

1890 Federal New York Census Records were destroyed in a fire with the exception of small fragments of Suffolk and Westchester Counties.

The 1890 Veterans and Widows census records schedules for New York did survive and can be helpful as a census substitute.

Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for New York Federal census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880,  1900, and 1920.

New York State took a census enumeration every 10 years between 1825 and 1875, then again in 1892, 1905, 1915 and 1925 due to the high volume of immigration.  More New York State Census Records Info
