New Mexico Census Notes

Federal New Mexico census records  are extant for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

The 1890 Federal New Mexico Census schedules were lost in a fire, however the 1890 Veterans and Widows schedules did survive the fire.

Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for New Mexico Federal census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880,  1900, and 1920.

New Mexico Territory was established in 1850 and included present day Colorado and Arizona.  Colorado Territory was separated from New Mexico Territory  in 1861 and Arizona Territory in 1863.

Arizona is included in the 1860 Federal Census of New Mexico as Arizona County.
