New Mexico Census Notes Federal New Mexico census records are extant for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930. The 1890 Federal New Mexico Census schedules were lost in a fire, however the 1890 Veterans and Widows schedules did survive the fire. Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for New Mexico Federal census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880, 1900, and 1920. New Mexico Territory was established in 1850 and included present day Colorado and Arizona. Colorado Territory was separated from New Mexico Territory in 1861 and Arizona Territory in 1863. Arizona is included in the 1860 Federal Census of New Mexico as Arizona County. Learn what questions were asked in each census year and where to find census records online.
