Nevada Census NotesNevada became a possession of the United States in 1848 after the Mexican War. Between 1850 and 1861, it was included in Utah Territory before becoming Nevada Territory. Nevada Territorial Census Records are available for 1861-1862 but is not complete for all areas. Nevada State Census Records exist for the year 1875 and although the data included in those census schedules is not as thorough as the Federal census, it can help to bridge the gap between 1870 and 1880 Nevada Federal census records. Federal Nevada Census Records are available to the public for census years 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930. 1890 Nevada Federal Census Records were completely destroyed in an unfortunate 1921 warehouse fire. Find Nevada Census Records Online: The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office has put the Nevada Federal census data online for 1860-1920. Keep in mind, this is the "DATA ONLY" from these censuses, not the Nevada 1860-1910 Census Images at Ancestry.com which is indexed and can be viewed online, then printed out for addition to your genealogy records and documentation. The Ancestry Nevada Census Records also includes census images and an index for the year 1930 which has not yet been digitized by the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office. Both sources are invaluable tools for Nevada census research. 1875 Nevada State Census at Ancestry Learn what questions were asked in each census year and where to find census records online.
