About Census Records at

Census Finder

Our mission is to provide access to all available census records online. This includes both free and paid subscriptions.  Our census directory can be found below.  Ancestry.com has completed every name indexing of all U.S. census records and the images are online. Search these in the searchbox to the right.

NOTE: Due to the many genealogy subscriptions online now, census records on CD Rom are becoming obsolete.

Nebraska Census Notes

Nebraska Territorial Census Records exist for the years 1854, 1855, 1856 and 1860.

Federal Nebraska Census Records are available to the public for 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for Nebraska Federal census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880,  1900, and 1920.

The 1885 Special Federal Agricultural Census is an excellent and little used resource.  I have copies of some of these.  They tell what kind of livestock, how many, if they sold butter, eggs, etc...very interesting.

1890 Nebraska Federal Census Records were destroyed in a 1921 fire, however the 1890 Nebraska Veterans and Widows schedules did survive the fire and are often used as a census substitute.

Nebraska State Census Records were enumerated every year between 1869 and 1885.  Only a small number of those schedules have been found and in fact, some may still be buried in storage rooms of old courthouses.
