Missouri Census Notes:

Missouri Territorial census enumerations were recorded for 1814, 1817 and 1819.  Many of these were lost.  1817 & 1819 territorial censuses are still in existence for St. Charles.

Missouri Federal census records are available to the public for census years: 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

1890 Missouri Federal census records were completely destroyed by fire in 1921, however,  the Veterans and Widows Census did survive and is often used for searching in that census year.

Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for Missouri Federal census records exist for census years 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920.

Missouri state census records: Enumerations were taken in 1821, 1824, 1828, 1832, 1836, 1840, 1844, 1852, 1856, 1860, 1864, 1868 and 1876.  Unfortunately, most of them have been lost.  Existing records are housed at The State Historical Society of Missouri.
