Missouri Census Notes
Missouri Territorial census
records were recorded for 1814, 1817 and 1819. Many of these were lost. The 1817 & 1819 territorial censuses are still in existence for St. Charles,
MO. The 1820 Territorial Census for Missouri did not survive.

Federal Missouri census records are available to the public for census years: 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

1890 Missouri Federal census records were completely destroyed by
a 1921 warehouse fire, however, the Veterans and Widows Census did survive and is often used
as a census substitute for the 1890 census.

Soundex code
(phonetic indexes) for Missouri Federal census records exist for census years 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920.
Missouri state census records: Enumerations were taken in 1821, 1824, 1828, 1832, 1836, 1840, 1844, 1852, 1856, 1860, 1864, 1868,
1876 and possibly other years. Unfortunately, most of them have been
lost and most are incomplete. The 1876 Missouri state census is the most
complete of all of them. Existing records are housed at
