About Census Records at

Census Finder

Our mission is to provide access to all available census records online. This includes both free and paid subscriptions.  Our census directory can be found below.  Ancestry.com has completed every name indexing of all U.S. census records and the images are online. Search these in the searchbox to the right.

NOTE: Due to the many genealogy subscriptions online now, census records on CD Rom are becoming obsolete.

Louisiana  Census Notes

Louisiana is divided into parishes rather than the counties we are familiar with.

The Census Tables for the French Colony of Louisiana from 1699 Through 1732 are the earliest available for the state of Louisiana.  This collection of 28 censuses along with many other early Louisiana genealogy databases can be accessed by CD or subscription.

See: 1600s-1800s Louisiana Settlers

Federal Louisiana census records are available to the public for census years: 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

Soundex code (phonetic indexes) for Federal Louisiana census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880,  1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930.

Inaccurate information and facts about the 1860 Louisiana census.

See: A situation concerning the 1860 census of East Feliciana Parish, La.

1890 Louisiana Federal Census Records were destroyed in a 1921 warehouse fire, however, the schedules for Veterans and Widows did survive the fire and is a helpful census substitute for this census year.
