Idaho Census NotesIdaho is included in the Federal census of Oregon Territory for census years 1850 and 1860. A small portion of what is now known as Bear Lake area is included on the 1860 Federal census for Cache County, Utah Territory. A portion of Bear Lake area and Franklin County was enumerated on the 1870 Federal census for Cache County, Utah. Federal Idaho census records are available to the public for census years: 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930. The 1890 Idaho Federal Census schedules were completely destroyed by a fire in 1921 including the veterans and widows schedules. Idaho (Territory: 1863. Statehood: 1890) Previous to 1863, Idaho was part of the Oregon Territory. Originally, included in Idaho Territory was most of Wyoming and all of Montana. Montana became it's own territory a year later in 1864 and Wyoming in 1868. These can be important facts when searching for ancestors in this area of the United States.
