Florida Census Notes: Florida Federal census records begin in 1830 and continue every ten years thereafter. Florida census years include: 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930. They are freely available to the public. 1890 Florida Federal Census Records were completely burned in a 1921 warehouse fire, including the Florida Widows and Veterans census schedules. Soundex code indexes for Federal Florida census records are available on microfilm for census years: 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930. Florida state census records begin in 1845, they were presumably taken every ten years until 1949, when they were abolished. There are 6 sets of Florida state census records in existence. They are: 1845, 1855, 1867, 1875 (all incomplete), plus 1935 & 1945. There also appears to be an 1885 census for Leon County and an 1895 census for Nassau County available in the Florida State Archives.
