Delaware Census Notes Delaware Federal Census Schedules schedules are available for census years: 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930. 1790 Federal census records for Delaware are said to have been destroyed in the War of 1812. Early tax lists can be used to cover the 1790 gap in some cases. 1890 Federal Delaware census records were destroyed completely in a 1921 warehouse fire. When researching Delaware, you will often see the word Hundred. This is simply a division within the county. See Delaware Counties and Hundreds Delaware was originally part of the Pennsylvania colony. Places located in Delaware now, may have been in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Maryland previously. Delaware state census records are scarce. In fact, the only known state census year is 1782 and it is incomplete.
