Arkansas Census Notes
Arkansas was
originally part of Missouri Territory between 1812 and 1819.
In 1819 when Arkansas Territory was established, it
did include present day Oklahoma. Remember this when you search for Arkansas census records
& Oklahoma ancestors.
Arkansas State Census Records were taken in the following years: 1823, 1829, 1865 and 1911.
None of these Arkansas state censuses include every resident of Arkansas
as they are incomplete.
See
1819-1870 Arkansas Census Records at Ancestry.
This Arkansas census collection includes tax records 1819-1829 which can
be helpful for locating ancestors in Arkansas Territory before Federal
census records were recorded.
Federal Censuses: The first Arkansas Census Records are for census year 1830 and continued every 10 years. 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Arkansas Federal census schedules are available to the public.
See 1790-1930

1890 Arkansas Federal Census Records were destroyed
in a 1921 warehouse fire including the Veterans and Widows Census.
