Alaska Census Notes There were several Alaskan Territorial Censuses taken between 1868 and 1929. Many of these are for the islands of St. George and St. Paul but there are some for other areas. All are incomplete. See Alaska Censuses Existing and Lost. In 1869, an unofficial Alaskan census was taken by the US Army at Sitka. See Alaska's First Mysterious Census-Taker. Many Alaskan residents arrived in the Alaskan ports of Eagle, Hyder, Ketchikan, Nome and Skagway. The lists of Alaska Alien Arrivals could prove helpful in locating lost ancestors. See 1906-1949 Alien Arrivals to Alaska. Federal Alaska census records are available to the public for census years: 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930. The earlier census schedules for 1880 and 1890 did not survive. See 1790-1940 Census Collection at Ancestry. Alaska State census records are available for the following years: 1870, 1878, 1879, 1881, 1885, 1887, 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1914, and 1917. All of these are incomplete. Alaska Census & Voter Lists
