US County Maps

US County maps to help you locate counties and boundaries.  This is all important.  When you locate your ancestors in a county, you should search all surrounding counties for census and genealogy records.  Many times people did business in surrounding counties especially if they were closer to a court house in an adjoining county.  I have also included many historical plat maps and county maps on the map pages.  Many of the plat maps show landowners!

Historical Museum Guide

A comprehensive guide to help you locate historical houses, history museums, parks, history timelines, state symbols, local history and historic photos online.  Knowledge of the areas where your ancestors resided will flesh out your genealogical records and make the people and memories come alive.

Need help reading the old handwriting the census takers left behind?

This page at Treasure Maps is a big help in uncovering the mysteries of that old style handwriting used by our forefathers.

Help us help you....  If you have census records online or know of some that aren't listed in these pages, please Submit Links for listing.  This project is ongoing.  I am finding it takes much time to locate all of the available census transcriptions, images and indexes which are available online.  Perhaps this will help you cut through the hunt and chase.  I have added additional various resources when census records are not available for a particular area or when I felt they were good census substitutes for a given place and time period.

Attention!  Transcribing old census records is extremely difficult, tedious, pain staking work.  Please remember to thank the volunteers at each site when you locate genealogy information and census records which are helpful to you in your research.

Census Finder extends a great big THANK YOU to all of you who spend your time and efforts transcribing the countless genealogy records to put online for genealogists.  You are very much appreciated!  This site reflects all of your hard work and makes the records easily accessible to genealogists around the world!

And for those of you with some spare time on your hands, why not offer to transcribe a census for the USGenWeb Census Project.  It can be a very rewarding experience.
